You're thinking of fuel cells in transportation. In home cogen systems using natural gas they are more efficient overall than a home generating their own heat in a furnace and buying electricity from a grid that is making electricity from natural gas. More efficient = less demand = lower price for natural gas. Mind you some ways in the future though. 2 years to first home cogen going into production.
