I was fuming right along with you at the time,
and fully agree with you. It was overdone.

To use an analogy, when people are trying to lose
weight, one of the things they should do is force
themselves to eat SLOWER. This way, their brain
gets the message that they're full before the
stomach is overloaded. Effect is that you eat less.

Here, the overdone cuts were like eating too fast.
Before the "brain" could get the message 6 months
hence, the damage had already been done.

The principal difference is that the market has
been decimated, whereas, in the weight analogy
it would be heavier than a sumo wrestler.
