"Anyway, if the above figures are approximately correct then the amount the NDX would have to fall to reach the historical average corresponds pretty well with my Linear Regression for the NDX since Dec. '90 of about 960.
BTW, the NDX first reached 960 in May 1997 - not that long ago. It's useful to remember that there have been no recessions in the '91 - '00 period, so this linear regression study only really covers the "best of times". Thankfully, a similar study of the compx as a whole isn't quite so ugly. The same linear regression on compx yields a value of about 1700, which was first reached in Sept. '97."


We'll see how close to this compx target we get by end of January. I don't have nearly the faith in this one, but I don't think we're anywhere near a bottom yet.

BTW, I wouldn't be surprised to see Greenspan retire in the face of the Republicans.
