Dan, I can't believe that. This does not happen in american industries. If your friend worked for a substandard wage, everyone else with the same experience must have worked at similar wage. The fact is that msft and other tech companies give substandard wages in return for stock options. Now the options are worthless. So, the wages are increasing. I don't think corporations like msft can afford to hire substandard people and even more so at substandard wages.

Just IMHO.
