I've just been too shocked by the overall meltdown to post here.....

I don't know what to make of it. At least they haven't warned yet (LOL...black humor).

I considered selling this at 16 because I was dicey on the whole market, but held because I'm a steady hand. Now I feel stupid. A week ago, this was still one of my best long term performers. Today, it became one of my worst short term holds. I'm still okay overall with this...not happy, but okay.

I don't know what to expect with anyone anymore. ASPT is in good shape is my guess. It's just suffering along with everyone else.
What do you make of Palm, which beats estimates and gets hammered? Oracle beats estimates, rises, then falls back.

That's the sign of the bear. He's here, he's queer, get used to it. I'm in it for the long term. It's all short term selling for tax purposes at this point.......Buying begins anew on Jan 1.

Announcement #1 and #3 is good if "standardizes" is newspeak for "the customer gave us a cheque this quarter". Wish there were some standards for PR messages :-)

Annc #2 definitely is a PR-Only message.

Comments:

1. Just trying to stop the price slide?

-- Maybe. But, if the co was bullish about the short term, wouldn't it be buying back stock?

2. They will have outstanding results this Q

-- That will definitely be good news. When JimC announced the restructuring in 1998, he was confident of a quick turnaround. It's 2001 now. Investors patience is running out. The new CEO definitely needs some good news to maintain her credibility.

3. They will have lousy results this Q and this PR will be the basis for the PR which will accompany the Q's results allowing management to point to the next Q with optimism.

-- This seems to be the management's style though. They always have these announcements at the end of a quarter.
The conference call should be interesting -- if it is bad news, it will be difficult to figure out if it is due to endemic problems with the company or due to the slowing economy. Remember, the last recession was not kind to the company.

4. None of the above.

-- Isn't no news good news? <VBG> BTW, FWIW, I confirmed with IR that the company is shutting down from Christmas to New Year. A first for Aspect.
