Eric with all due respect, You classify NTT's roll out in may as a initial path 3g system and question IJ claim of cdma200 roll out as 2.5G.Face to face the 2.5 system beats the docomo's 3g system hands down. The standard body who set the standards need to be questioned as it involves a lot of people who have a huge stake in continuing with the status quo in the business. You don't think they would just roll over to qcom without a fight. Having seen what happened to the nasdaq this year those who pursue the wrong standard will pay dearly and will be replicas of what is happening to at&t this year in a few years and NTT will not be able to buy its way in or bail them out as I suspect they will have lots of problems of their own.

With the capital markets shutting down it will be interesting to see how some of the guys who won the spectrum auctions at crazy prices can even secure financing on a system that is financially dumb.

Eric,

I'm finding that more and more I have to ignore the details (difficult as that may be for a nitpicker) when seeing interviews and the like. References to terms such as CDMA2000, 2G and 3G are used so loosely that you'd think Geoff Moore was conducting the interview. :)

"Irwin might think that cdma2000 is the "better one", but the carriers aren't buying it, and there are reasons for this."

Speaking of which, just why do you think WCDMA is giving CDMA2000 such a back-alley beating? What do you think the carriers would tell us if we asked them this question?

TIA
