What must frost your popsicle is that the Alpha IS shipping and it NEVER WAS AND NEVER WILL be an inbustry standard !

True... all true.

However, that wasn't my point. My point (which you so
readily clipped) was that the whole Itanium thing is nothing
but Vapor. So much so , that it is two years out until
product ships from the Jan 4, 2000 demo. We've been having
the same on again/off again back and forths about Itanium
and it still isn't here. MPR folks have crashed hard
talking up Itanium, they don't know what to believe
anymore. If you dredge up some of what we talked about
over the last 2 years, it was certain it would be shipping
volume by now. You believed they would be shipping
systems (other than pilot) by now. Now we see May 2001
for workstations. That's a 1998 part in a 2001
workstation (look at bandwidth for instance).

So we wait.

Returning to the questions that haunt:

Who buys it if IA32 outperforms in database metrics?
If Whistler ain't ready in May (we know that), how good
does it do pushing Linux?

Rob
