Z.O. -- Did the Deutsche Bank note say "eased" or "increased"? Makes a big difference.

At any rate, I think they're looking at an elephant through a magnifying glass. When this tech wreck is over, JDSU will still be standing, and perhaps even relatively stronger vis-a-vis its weaker peers that might not be able to weather the storm. I firmly believe that. The build out of the internet is an organic force, like the spread of kudzu, and it cannot and will not be stopped. If I were reading a note from an analyst that said that JDSU was not executing, or that disruptive innovations from competitors were threatening its franchise, I might be worried. But there have been no such notes. Short term noise about capex deceleration chops 3/4 off the market cap? I've got to believe this is a buying opportunity. And I am a buyer at $40.

When DB Alex Brown talks about channel checks, does that mean that they call up the Nortels and Lucents of the world and ask how long it's taking them to receive shipments of certain passive components from JDS? If the answer is "Not as long as it used to take to get them.". Then is Alex Brown assuming that because JDS is able to get them the parts in a shorter amount of time then there must be decreased purchasing from all other JDS customers?

What about the flip side...maybe JDS has ramped up production and manufacturing efficiency to meet the backlog
that has existed for quite some time. Has any analyst actually spoken to JDS and found out that they are experiencing decreased demand for their entire line of products, or have they spoken to JDS customers and found out that they are decreasing purchases of JDS components?
