What is best for the country is not a Republican, right-wing agenda forced on 260 million citizens by an elitist minority. Hence, I would expect and hope that there will be some real pugilistic encounters in Congress over the next four years. I was particularly pleased to see that the NAACP will oppose Ashcroft's nomination as attorney general. On certain issues there might be room to work together, but that should not be the first priority of the Democratic Party, which represents a majority of people who voted on Nov. 7.

For the record, I have never been a sore loser. I accepted the fact on Nov. 8 that Gore lost the Electoral College vote.

What I will not accept is this notion forwarded by you and others that the Democratic Party should now roll over and let DeLay, Lott et al do their thing. Nothing could be further from the truth.
