A little tap on the behind when they are very small and not capable of reason makes sense. But by the time they are school age, my kids feared a harsh word from myself or my wife much more than any corporal punishment. I haven't felt a need to administer any love taps to either of them for many years. My expression that they have disappointed me and giving them some solitary confinement time to think over their actions seems to work pretty well. In the same way, being made to stand outside the classroom or being sent to the office with a follow up call to the parents could be just as effective as corporal punishment.
