hi tc thank you for the feedback. it's always helpful to know if the prob is specific to my system and machine, or if others are experiencing it as well. (another great function of this thread, btw. someone said the other day that if all tech support people were helpful and efficient, this thread would not exist. i disagree!) <g> i still could not get lu to make my day, but i saw by the filename you provided that there were finally new defs on the manual site. so i went and got them quite easily. the new virus defs are dated 12/21/00... btw, you and i think a lot alike, because i tried the same checking and unchecking routine, but to no avail for me. :) mark
