I didn't realize the wash sale would apply to 30 days BEFORE also. Are you certain about that?

It would seem pretty difficult for the IRS to keep track of that type of thing since they aren't informed of BUYS, only sells.

BTW- My accountant told me that in 25 years in the tax bizness, he's never had the IRS audit any clients because of capital gains problems. He said it's too complicated for them to mess with. <g>

You are correct according to this article. 30 days applies to before or after on a wash.

Of course you could buy another VERY SIMILAR stock in the same sector. <g>
