Carolyn, this is a good thread to discuss some potential future conflicts. Actually, I've found some discussion on SI pretty annoying. Some untrue stories have been posted targeting at particular ethnic groups. Some of the posters use sources like www.stratfor.com, where the political analysts have very subjective points of view over some issues. And some analysts there even use rumors to mind us about something. I don't think this is healthy for the society. It is just plain conspiracies created by people with paranoia. The lack of knowledge in foreign affairs is a concern, and any misunderstanding or understanding based on politicians' own belief can create troubles for us.
As you mention about nationalism and religion which could create wars and conflicts, I think I am more worried about British Darwinism than Russian Communism. Darwinism, as misinterpreted by many nations during the 1900s, had triggered 2 major world wars. The ideology behind this is downright racist. I'm pretty surprised no one wants to address this issue nowadays. And you think Darwinism still exists today...you bet. Even in the US where some Darwinists could control the mighty US military power to destroy other ethnic groups based on some excuses....like we have been supplying military arsenals to Israel to kill Palestinians. It is anti-genocide genocide IMO. The medium are so biased that you just couldn't simply believe them. Even when I play PC games like Civilization II, it mentions Napoleon saying... If China becomes bigger and stronger, we are in trouble....something like that. Wow! what a conspiracy! I wonder whether Napoleon had any knowledge in the far east. He was just a coward, and should've died in Waterloo rather than on bed. Obviously, some British programmers in Civilization II spread the message.
Things like these remind me how Nazi Germany used media and bibles to address their own people to kill a certain ethnic group. It was all economically related and could repeatedly happen if we are not aware of these kind of tiny things.
