Nike.

Who hasn't heard of Nike? They're global. Who doesn't want a pair of Nikes? Everyone loves them. Everyone wants to wear them.

Seven Eleven.

They don't even have them in Mexico.

I think the comparison will make more sense when they're standing in line to buy a dozen Original Glazed at the Mexico City, Tokyo, Peking, or Moscow Krispy Kreme.

NIKE is an "icon" brand, recognized worldwide. Seemingly rational people pay far too much money for NIKE shoes, because -- they want them, and they can afford them.

I think a lot of people buying Krispy Kreme doughnuts are quite aware of the huge mark-up on the doughnuts.

(The fund raising "flyer" (which was right on the counter at the Ft. Lauderdale, FL Krispy Kreme store I was at) clearly lays out that KREM is happy to sell doughnuts to non-profit organizations @ $1.75 per dozen).

7-11 is a company which has filed for bankruptcy at least once already (1987 or 1988, if I remember correctly).

It has market saturation problems, enormous competition, clearly no "icon" status at all (unless you are talking about negative characteristics like dangerous work, low pay, etc.)

Someone walking down a street wearing a 7-11 T-shirt would NOT get favorable interactions from strangers the way a person wearing a Krispy Kreme T-shirt would.

Jon.
