Thank you, L. I am enjoying the holidays, and I hope you are too. Unfortunately, I've been a bit bogged down on SI in irritating arguments with allegedly technically astute people about the wonders of Star Wars II, coming soon to a military industrial complex near you courtesy of W. That guy just seems more Reaganesque all the time.

Time for more black humor. Did you know that the system slated for deployment Real Soon Now had, as of 1999, only succeeded in 3 out of 17 tests? Under ideal conditions, of course, where they knew exactly when and where the interceptee was coming from beforehand. And the 3 successes weren't clustered near the end of the series, either.

It'd be funnier if there wasn't real money involved in all this, in the inflation adjusted Dirksen sense. Hundred billion here, hundred billion there...
