Intel does seem to have lost its way. They realized some time ago that the X86 architecture was nearing EOL, but have had trouble coming up with a viable successor, especially since the X86's main strength is the legacy code available for it (and Intel's excellent process abilities, but those should be transferable to other architectures). And now AMD is making things "interesting" (as in the Chinese curse) for them.

Ideally, they'd embrace JAVA, but I'm not sure they're ready to think that far "out of the box." If they find themselves having trouble keeping all those fabs busy, though, they may come around.

JMHO.

Dear Rudedog: No, I never bought the RDRAM but if I get a P4 seems that is in fact the way to go. I just have a lot of respect (though it has been shaken this past year) for the brainpower at INTC. I cannot fathom why, with all their available brains, they would make a mammoth change (or what should be a mammoth change--I am thinking of the huge numbers of semiconductors in the P4) and it not be for the better.
