MSFT is making a big mistake by dropping support for Java. They have no choice. Java means platform independence, and without platform dependence, Microsoft would be powerless. It is likely that Java will succeed despite Microsoft's continuing fight against it. But Microsoft has to take the chance that Java will fail, because it is the only chance they have. C++ is a dying language. Say what? I think Java will be wildly successful, but I certainly don't think C++ is going away. Java is not, for example, the best language for writing USB drivers or video codecs. C/C++ or a language of its ilk will always have its place. C# will fail in the marketplace. With this, I absolutely agree. Java is all about platform independence. Despite Microsoft's absurd protestations to the contrary, nobody believes that C# is intended to be a viable cross-platform alternative to Java, any more than they believed it when Microsoft released MFC and Visual BASIC for Macintosh and then later killed them.
