<< AWE and Cingular ... it would have been incredible to beleive that it would happen. >>

I agree. Keith and I had some lively debates on that subject.

<< Didn't we see news of a trial by Q and Verizon of a full 3G QCOM system. >>

Yes. And since I am long time V "Do or Die" by way of BAM I am pretty darned impatient which makes me grumpy sometimes. <g>

Looking forward right now to the new Kyocera Smartphone whether or not 1x whatever is rolled out and so long as it has a MSM5 whatever inside.

Bedminster, NJ, November 21, 2000 -- In a move designed to accelerate the deployment of high-speed data services throughout its network, Verizon Wireless today announced plans to trial cdma2000(tm) 1xEV, a high-speed data rate technology that will support up to 2.4 megabits per second (Mbps) in its existing spectrum and on current base station equipment ... Planned for next year, the joint 1xEV trial expands on current cdma2000 1x trials conducted on Lucent-supplied FlexentTM cdmaOne(tm) network infrastructure, thereby setting the stage for rapid commercialization and deployment of 3G CDMA digital wireless technology into the Verizon Wireless network.

<< I got the impresssion that Verizon might even be preparing to skip the 1X stage, just my impression. >>

I personally doubt it. Could be wrong.

I hope not because 1xRTT with MSM 5105 will be deployable much earlier than with 1xEV.

However, the press release did say:

"With 1xEV technology we will build upon the success of CDMA by delivering data-intensive services to our customers."
