as the opionion of who? You are saying that Ike forced Kennedy to place more than a half million men there...but he didn't have time so LBJ had to do it? Good thing the Republicans ended the Democrat charade...Why didn't LBJ run again? To much guilt for offing Kennedy and for failing in VietNam?

Another event that ratcheted up the conflict was the assassination of Diem, likely carried out with JFK's approval. You might say the assassination of JFK was a bit of rough justice. This is a pretty good timeline of events.
