The only nearby college was the Naval Academy. I don't think they had yet admitted women by the time I graduated. Besides, I was never an aspiring cocksman. Too worried about being an s.o.b.

I didn't think much of Moonstruck at all. I am part Italian, as well as Jewish, and it rang false and patronizing to me. Cage, in any event, rang the falsest of all. John Turturro would have fit the part much better.

I liked the sequel to Wings of Desire, and the other, the name of which escapes me, with Max Von Sydow. But I have not seen anything recent. As for Lynch, see Wild at Heart, which also stars Cage (with Laura Dern and Diane Ladd). Very affecting. Also, forget Twin Peaks as the series. See the movie that summed up the story, Twin Peaks: Firewalk with Me. The finest piece of surrealist filmmaking in American cinema, I would say, and one very intense experience. His recent film with Richard Farnsworth, The Straight Story (I believe), about the guy who drove his lawnmower across a couple of states to see his brother, was sweet, and had some nice camera work and editing, but was ultimately a short made into a feature.

Have you seen any of David Mamet's films? The last I saw was The Spanish Prisoner, not so substantial, but brilliantly plotted and executed. House of Games, with Joe Montegna and Lindsay Crouse, was probably his best.

I liked Rushmore very much. I am a pretty big Murray fan, especially Stripes and Scrooged. I prefer Ghostbusters II. He did very well in What About Bob?, of course. I did not like Groundhog Day as well as most, although it had its charms.

I feel for my uncles, since I do know they were abused, but it would be a nightmare to have one of them leech off of me, so I have to keep them away. Fortunately, they rarely focus on me, and the last time one of them did, although I started out friendly enough, I ended up telling him off pretty harshly. Comparatively, the other dysfunctions in my family seem mild.......
