Ringing true? The guy cuts his hand off and becomes a baking hermit...nothing in this movie tried to be true. John Turturro on the other hand would be interesting in that role. Its not a favorite of mine, but I did like Cage. "Faraway and So Close", I think that was the name of the sequel. I liked the original and never really understood why he made a second one. I really liked Peter Falk in the original. Such a strange twist to use a real person so deep in a work of fiction. I was a big Columbo fan when I was a kid. It came on after Disney on Sunday night and it was an easy push to get the parents to allow a bit more TV time. Wim Wenders did "BV Social Club" and I have not yet seen it. I am a big Ry Cooder fan as I also play a little acoustic guitar. I will have to check that one out. "Until the End of World" was just lacking something. I don't know what, but it didn't work for me. William Hurt, what happened to that guy. I really liked a lot of his stuff and then "Lost in Space"? Must have needed some money. He speaks one of my all time favorite lines in "The Accidental Tourist". That line about a traveler finding something during his travels and even though he might know its not practical, he must take it with him. Great line and a decent movie. Oh I knew there was another great Lynch film to include in my short list. Of course "Wild at Heart" is great stuff. Loved it and I think it really influenced a lot of films that followed. I totally skipped "Firewalk with Me". I just wrote it off as I did the Twin Peaks thing and never got the payoff I expect from committing my time. I might check it out. I heard about "The Straight Story" and will check it out. I like Farnsworth too. I am a huge Mamet fan and consider him right next to Fincher when I think about the directors and screenwriters that are ahead of the pack. I saw "House of Games" at the theater when it came out and went around telling everyone to see it. I really liked "Spanish Prisoner" and think Martin did an excellent job in a more dramatic turn. Joe Montegna and David Mamet seemed to be one of those teams that works. Didn't they do "Things Change" together too? I really liked that film. A very small film, but with some real depth on the nature of people, perception, and image. You prefer "Ghostbusters II" What? Hun? This does not compute. As self-proclaimed protector of all-things-Murray I must take exception -vbg- Murray had ALL the lines in the original. I don't even remember the second one. I am sure I did see it but I have blocked it from the memory banks. As for the rest, well I liked them all. "Quick Change" had its moments too. I am a romantic at heart so "Groundhog Day" was a favorite of mine. Who among us would not like the chance to go back and get it right. Someone on this thread noted that our recent election felt a lot like "Groundhog Day", and I couldn't agree more. Yes those family dysfunctions can be pretty tiresome. I wish you luck with managing that. It can be hard because some of these family members think they can do ANYTHING and you will forgive and forget. Not me. I made it clear where I stand/stood and if you cross that line then its goodbye. This might appear very harsh, but if you have ever tried to reason with a control freak then I am sure you can relate. Good luck and I hope they continue to find someone else to focus on . HAGO TH
