Every movie, no matter how far fetched, has to feel true, unless artificiality is part of the style (for example, Polyester and Andy Warhol's Bad). Moonstruck was supposed to be operatic and over the top, but with conviction, with a sense of fidelity to passion. That didn't work for me. I considered Cage's character to be unrealized, for example. He did not feel like someone prone to strong passions, he was just noisy. Have you seen Midnight Run? There is a moment when DeNiro's character has to see his ex- wife for help, and suddenly becomes aware of his daughter. He stops, stares at her, as she gazes at him tentatively. The strain on him is palpable. There is more heart stopping emotion in that moment than the whole of Cage's performance in Moonstruck, IMO.

I am very fond of Columbo too, and it seemed right for Peter Falk to be the fallen angel. One good aspect of City of Light was to use Dennis Franz, albeit not as himself, in that role. I forgot about Buena Vista Social Club. Haven't seen it either. Until the End of the World was too much of a shaggy dog story, but I found it charming. Bill Hurt's best role has probably been in Kiss of the Spider Woman. I am not sure what he is doing with his career. Have you seen any of Percy Adlon's movies? Baghdad Cafe, Rosalie Goes Shopping, a few others. He is German, but likes to work in the States.

Don Ameche was at the center of Things Change, although I believe Montegna was in there, yes. A real charmer. I do not much like Glengerry Glen Ross, but you can't win 'em all.

I just think that GbII is a better script, better thought through, more dramatically engaging.

Fortunately, familywise, I do not need to deal with much more than I want, although obligation occasionally leads to inconvenience. There have been times, in the past, when things could be exhausting.......
