Greenspan refuses to address the issue of real wages. If we look at real wages the average worker has lost -and continues to lose- purchasing power. This "problem" has been an ongoing trend which has not been addressed much less rectified by the fed's policies. Workers must continue to borrow because of the continuing reduction in their real wages. What the fed ought to do-in my opinion- is to index wage gains to both productivity gains and inflation. In other words, allow wages to increase to the extent of productivity increases and increases in the cpi. The american worker is getting literally fucked by the policies of the fed. When greenspan testifies on capitol hill he is never questioned about real wages. And that is exactly the line of questioning which is relevant.
