Strip shingles? The ice formed from the melting snow has backed up behind the slight pitch, gone uphill, and your waterproofing has become null and void. If you can get the ice off the roof, I'll bet the drip will stop.

August, affixiation Do you mean asphyxiation? As in, "I can't breathe no more?"... <g> To help alleviate the water pressure built up beneath the ice pack, boil water and use the hot water to open "breaks" or "holes" in the ice pack near the eaves. What's happening is that you likely have some melted ice water escaping near the eaves, but the water flowing through that very thin escape passageway is blocking air flow from entering and equalizing pressures above and below the ice pack. You've got sort of a vacuum created, and the water "flows" up and under the shingles. By created sufficient "holes" you allow air to enter the process, which will allow the water to drain more quickly and prevent more from "backing up" and penetrating the roof's infrastructure. Be careful though. You don't want the whole thing (or a big piece of ice) slipping off of the roof and landing on you. So melt the ice pack slowly and sparingly. The idea is to equalize air pressure and create a free flow of runoff, not to quickly melt the entire ice pack. Once you've got the excess water drained off, sparingly salt the roof to speed the melting process. KJC
