Sorry, but your own re-interpretation of "democracy" doesn't comport with the dictionary definition you gave earlier. "One man, one vote," is not the criteria. And, while the slates of presidential electors are chosen, it is ALWAYS the electors who we vote for, not the candidates by direct election -- how do you think the electors come to cast their electoral votes? What do you think the discussions about seating competing slates of FL electors, and three possible "faithless electors" throwing the election to Gore were about?

And, going back to your "anything less than that is not Democracy," the USA is a democratic republic. It's even in the Pledge of Allegiance. That's the system. And, how do you think the nominees even get on the ballot? Sometimes by party caucuses, sometimes by primaries, but always as chosen representatives of their parties.

You can debate the definition of the term, "true Democracy," until the cows come home, but it's like debating the term "communism." The fallen Soviet Union exhibited more traits of a right-wing military dictatorship than a communist or socialist regime, but people came to know and refer to it as communist because that's what they said it was.
