Don't know how many will break down in the desert, but the reviewer purposely went to a desolate area with a tour guide to test the phone. Vehicle did break down. Phone worked great. I don't own this stock....just interested in watching it and think the phones are cool. There are plenty of places in the world that aren't wired or wireless. I've been in places in my own urbanized area where cell phone usage is a bit constrained.
