I would certainly like to see something publicizing the SKT launch. We all would. << I guess the system to date, while available, has not been pushed aggressively. >> There could be many reasons for the lack of publicity. * Limited variety of handsets * Limited new services that take advantage of 1xRTT * Limited buildout of infra upgrades (we know this is ongoing through this quarter). * No marketing push till the above items are complete * Debugging . "1x is supposed to be pin compatible with old phones" , BUT this is a migration and even though this upgrade should be more seamless and more controlled than, lets say, GSM to GPRS, some glitches needing resolution may exist. I have also been wondering if SKT isn't waiting for the MSM5105 chipset which is labeled as "designed to the IS-2000 Standard" as opposed to the MSM5000 which is not so defined. No fanfare and no press release accompanied the appearance of the MSM5105's appearance on the web site in early September:qualcomm.com This product made its way onto a publicly published QUALCOMM Roadmap for the fist time in mid-Novemberqualcomm.com Many carriers would be hesitant to implement a large supply of handsets with a chipset that is liable to have a short life (support issue) when the "Real McCoy" is following right on its heels. One of the above, some of the above, all of the above ... not sure. We are however, in a new generation of chipset, and I'd much rather hear nothing, than hear what we are hearing of Sonera's premature and abortive rollout of GPRS. ... also as I recall, we did not hear much in the early stages of IS-95B implementation in Korea. I'm sure we will be hearing good things in proper order ... but, like you, I sure am impatient to hear. <g> - Eric -
