Lee and two staff members were putting acrylic finger nails on to two customers when fire broke out on the rooftop of their building in Hong Kong's bustling Central district shortly after lunch on Wednesday. Scores of office workers rushed out of the building and no one was injured. But the five women opted not to exit immediately despite being warned by security guards that they should leave. ``I think deep down, we were all a bit nervous but all of us appeared very calm,'' Lee said. Happy with their polished nails, the women left more than an hour later, after the fire had been put out. ========================================================================================= ==============Off topic ============================================================ If you care about preserving animals and natural habitat, this initiative could make an enormous difference. Please send a quick e-mail right away. Sen. Frank Murkowski had a column in Sunday's Outlook Section of The Washington Post, calling for opening up the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to oil exploration. Bush says this is going to be one of his priorities. Even though Clinton is president for only a few more weeks, he can still designate the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to be a National Monument which would forever protect that pristine wilderness from oil drilling and other commercial development. Bush has already stated that he will turn the Refuge over to big oil. Clinton is on his way out and is sympathetic to this cause and has already protected the most wildlands since Teddy Roosevelt was president. All he needs is a push from the public. Call the White House hotline at (202)456-1111 (press "0" when prompted) from 8:30-5:00 EST and tell the comments-line operator that you want President Clinton to declare the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to be a National Monument as the last great environmental act of his presidency. This one action may result in the protection of more animals than almost anything else you can do. You may also send the president an email at: "mailto:president@whitehouse.gov">president@whitehouse.gov</A>. Your message or phone call can simply say: Mr. President, As the last environmental act of your presidency, I am asking you to designate the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to be a National Monument. Please culminate your presidency with this great environmental legacy. Sign your name and your city & statePlease spread the word to the environmentally conscientious people you know.
