Jim Dunnagan and Al Nofi, founded SPI,

Well that explains it... I love SPI games... especially "War in Europe"...

The game simulated WWII in Europe at divisional scale on a weekly turn basis. The Germans and Russians could actually manufacture their own unit assortments and speculate what would have happened if Hitler had ordered more U-Boats, or more Panzer divisions... etc...

The friggin' map board consisted of some 15 different interconnected paper maps that required at least a 10'x10' area to properly maneuver around. As teens we would all gather over at a friend's place where he had taped the maps onto the tile floor in there basement, and covered them with plastic overlay. We would then spend the entire weekend over there playing out the war, drinking cokes, doritos, sleeping for a couple of hours and getting up and doing it all over again...

But then we discovered Dungeons and Dragons and that became and addiction all its own...

Ahh... the fond recollections of my misspent youth... :0)

But, one regret is that I never was able to find a copy of "War in the Pacific" which was apparently quite rare and not widely sold. After all, these games cost some $60 a pop back in the late '70s and early '80s and I had better things to spend my hard earned cash on..

Regards,

Ron
