This is probably incorrect, but it seems to me that whenever you get the daily charts for all the indexes tracking each other pretty closely, with very little divergence, it telegraphs a general selling sentiment. They are more likely to diverge radically when the sentiment is positive.

Just some witch-doctor, or rather, witch-chiropracter, thoughts.

M, My only criticism is that you are settling for some awfully small profits given the risk of options. But, since you took them quickly, that mitigates some of the risk.
