ASHCROFT'S BELIEFS

Howard Cohen
January 5, 2001

From: The Chicago Tribune

SCHAUMBURG -- President-elect Bush's nomination of Sen. John Ashcroft to be the attorney general and head of the Justice Department is, in itself, a miscarriage of justice. Ashcroft is adamantly anti-abortion but almost equally adamant in favoring the death penalty for various crimes. These are fervent but very contradictory beliefs on human life.

This shows a lack of wisdom on his part, as well as an inability to be open-minded and sensitive to the complex issues of life and death. These blatant deficiencies should automatically disqualify him from the position of
our nation's chief law-enforcement officer.
