Jon: My rebuttal. [Point/CounterPoint] <unless it happens to be with your own wireless carrier (mine is Sprint PCS), one would be forced (with a lot of calling plans) to pay per minute roaming charges, which would take the cost of the call up at least part of the way to the Globalstar per minute charge.>

However, even the "inferior call quality" of an AMPS call with roaming charges requires only the existing phone that you already own (Dual Mode) that I can get for almost free!!

Versus a Globalstar phone that costs over $600 and a monthly service fee with a contract!! Sure it may be "just for fun" to call your friends on your Satellite Phone.. But, it appears you are doing so "not out of necessity", yet more as a "Techno toy".. After all, you are obviously concerned about cost per minute.. Or you would not call first on your 10 cent a minute PCS Phone..

What would be cheaper.. A Dual Mode/Band Sprint PCS phone paying .60 cents a minute roaming with AMPS and .10 cents a minute in Digital..

Or a Tri-Mode G* phone that costs $600 plus a Service Contract and a monthly Subscriber Fee to make those same calls in a higher quality G* mode @ $1.50 per minute..

You have already answered that question because you use your Sprint Phone to call ahead to make sure you won't waiste your Satellite Airtime Charges when you get a answering machine, when no one is home.

<EVERY single person has told me that the G* phone sounded much better than the Sprint PCS phone).>

And how many of the people that you have called thought the quality differential was worth the additional costs of the Globalstar Phone and Services?

Jon: The real question is!!! Did Carlos A. Soto the guide with ATV Action Tours buy one? After all.. This guy travel's these back roads quite often.. It seems that ATV Action Tours would be a natural for one of these baby's... However, I would bet ya' a two year old Christmas Fruit Cake that they didn't.. Why? Because they already have the basic communications that their business needs for such emergencies.. HF Radio, CB Radio.. etc..

Folks in Southern California should take a trip out to the Anza Borrego Desert and stop into the "Off Road Vehicle Camps" that form out there on the weekends.. These folks venture off into the "Great Unknown" almost every weekend on their ATV "Baha Bugs".. And you know what.. They have Multiple Forms of Communications Gear to communicate if their is an emergency!! And the per minute charge is ZERO!!! It may not be Private. But, when you need help!! The last thing you want is "Privacy".
