Pierre: Here is what your Cycling Friends do..

"Bicycle Mobile Operation

My interest in recreational bicycling provided the primary motivation for me to become a ham radio operator. While riding with a group of friends on country roads we would often get spread apart because of our differing cycling abilities. This made converstion difficult. We tried inexpensive FM headset radios, but found their short transmitting range (1/8 to 1/4 mile) too limiting. Because of this, several of us decided to become hams.

Now, using our HTs (hand-held transceivers, commonly called handie-talkies) we can communicate with each other even when several miles apart. Of course, ham radio is also great for solo cycling. Carrying on conversations with non-cycling hams is a great way to make the miles go by quickly."
