Many companies will still post good earnings such as SUNW, EMC, GLW, etc. For major players in the high-growth sectors such as optics and network storage, the backlogs are such that the companies are cushioned against significant slowing for a few quarters. Corning (GLW) and EMC are noted examples cited in your post. (However, I would be very careful about SUNW; there are reportedly real issues with SUN's new products.) Ibexx
