Re: Gilat StarBand and Hughes DirecPC Two-Way Service

Hi Frank and Thread,

Two questions:

1) I'm wondering if anyone here is using the Gilat - StarBand service, and can help me to sort out an installation problem that a friend is having?

2) Is anyone here using the Hughes DirectPC Two-Way service yet? With the disappointments so far with StarBand, we might want to switch, but resist jumping from the fire pan directly into the fire. :)

Best, Ray

Re: Two-way Satellite Service

"Low traffic capability and high capital is what usually sinks satellites, faster than gravity. I don't think you will have to rename your alias to STTH any time soon."

Message 14485066

"EchoStar, the No. 2 direct-broadcast satellite provider, said the introduction by DBS of two-way Internet access is probably no match for cable's high-speed Internet service bundled with digital-video and, in some cases, local phone service."

Frank and ftth- I'm afraid I either don't recall your opinion on two-way satellite viability. It's awkward to navigtate back through older posts. Can you refresh my memory as to how you two feel about two-way DBS? Thanks. -MikeM(From Florida)

PS Late edit- Frank I just re-read your response to justone and apparently you think some types of two-way may work. So what do you think of the DirectPC two-way service probability of success?
