Frankly I am on the side of the person who wants to use a gun for self-defense. I have done so once in my life - I didn't have to threaten the person, I just held on to the gun for comfort while I waited for the police to get there - and it was a great comfort, indeed.

Wanna tell that story?

That wait for the police to arrive can seem like an eternity. Been there myself at least once. Years ago a "gentleman" came in my yard intent on beating my dog with a short handled shovel. After a very short conversation, he dropped that shovel and declared he was going to go get "something to kill my big ass". I took him at his word and had my wife call the county sheriff and then took steps to be alive when the law arrived. The news got back to this "gentleman" that I was getting ready to defend myself and luckily for all concerned (especially him) he did not come back out.

It is anyone's guess how that would have turned out if I had just relied on the police to "save me".....it took a good 40 minutes for the squad car to get there.

the age most likely to be murdered by a handgun is age 20 to 24 - that's 2,516, or 17.8% of people murdered.

I find these statistics amazing. A handgun by far is the best way to murder someone. I would have thought the % would have been much higher.

Are knifes higher % than handguns? Wonder why the liberials don`t want to ban them also?

Must have something to do with the force needed to break bread. <G> That makes this very dangerous weapon allowed in their households. <G>

Oh yeah, one more thing. Never take a chainsaw to a gun fight.

Thanks for doing the statistical research...<g>

>>80,000 people used a weapon (unspecified) for self-defense against a violent attack in 1998 - vs. 9,143 people who were murdered with a firearm<<

Those figures are highly impressive and I'm not surprised... good for you to hold off the perpetrator... without that firearm you may not be here to post your comments... the police are very well trained, but are very under staffed.....

Just a curious note here, I heard that in Dodge City back in the wild west, there was very little crime... that was because the criminals could not find an easy mark, everyone had protection and the criminals knew it.....
