CMGI withdraws AltaVista IPO (check out who the underwriters were gonna be):

dailynews.yahoo.com

The underwriters, led by Morgan Stanley Dean Witter, had to option to buy 2.22 million extra shares to cover over-allotments. Chase H&Q, Robertson Stephens, Prudential Volpe Technology and Wit Soundview were also underwriters.

Got declining IPO revenues?

patron,

thank you for your nice note. i didn't mean to single you or any of the other nine folks out. and many of them did have <g>'s. if anyone is offended by their inclusion in the list, like you, i offer my retraction of their inclusion.

bill's position on wall street, i believe is different than most. his company does not have retail brokerage accounts and is not a major underwriter. bill essentially is in the business of giving good advice to those institutions that will buy it. bill is sometimes constrained, at least in part, by the rules by which the institutional clients operate: i.e. some clients cannot go short and others must be 100% long at all times. so he has to find picks for those folks. i'm not saying that is what this particular advice is about.

i agree with your post in its entirety.

i took the accumulated spirit of what people were saying about bill that the thread might consider that being a perma- anything might not be the right course. i would rather be dispassionate and be able to use my judgment as an investor to do the best thing to achieve the best results i could achieve at any time. not be wedded to a particular market direction in all seasons.

bull...

based on mehan's published reccomendations... little if any of his comments supported those picks....

retract nothing. until he updates his reasoning.. he is a clown and worse, a clown with a bit of power. hence he has some obligation to shit or get off the pot.
