Ray that was a good article and somewhere in this mess is a very truth filled positive action of what can be done for the future to limit any negative affects on humanity.

To me it is ridiculous that in the SI valley they are buying generators without looking into solar panels as another source of energy ie recharging batteries

On the light side: To me this was funny, my Moms youthful room mate has it all figured out. If his electric bills go up he is going to run his small generator on gas which will cost him about 5.OO a day. His electric bill is about 60.00 a month now add 40% which is very high and you have more than covered max increase. What made me really laugh is he had convinced all his neighbors this was the way to keep cost down. The couple next door to him took his advice and bought a new generator.

Living here in CA, previously near Moss Landing (site of decaying generator), and presently in Morro Bay (site of good generator, and presently a battle ground for a bigger generator), I viewed the PR coming in the mail for deregulation with great cynicism. Why? I saw this deregulation as a means for the Big Boys to offload the older, maintenance intensive equipment onto smaller players. I realized the Power Cartel had something up their sleeves, but an individual has little to say about such things. I watched. Then I saw the media begin with the Power Conferences, and the simultaneous rolling blackouts, orchestrated to perfection with each news blitz.
Then began the "dire emergency" (according to the Press) creating the climate for immediate action. OK, here it comes....the new facilities which were being denied permits "simply had to be permitted Immediately"...and of course, the older, decaying facilities were already being acquired by others.....and thus the Big Boys were pulling the levers to have their new, efficient facilities permitted. In CA, the public has a way of speaking up; the Big Boys are using their muscle to intimidate the public, and now are claiming financial hardship to further their case. I suspect the sellers on the spot market had a pre-arranged understanding with the CA utilities needing power, and I would not doubt in the future some sort of connection is hypothesized to exist between those companies out of state supplying the power to the companies in-state needing to purchase it. Bottom line is: new permits for new facilities, while raking in gobs of cash as well. Funny thing about the natural gas doubling in price at the very moment the power shortages are in vogue...I have both electric and gas furnaces....surprise! Both are sky high at the same time.. Checkmate on the consumer....and all the deregulation PR coming in the mail over the previous years did not speculate how the distribution systems would become a web of entrapment for the consumer...gee, now that the money is coming due, how did all this happen...we need a commission to figure it out?
Follow the cash trail, the solution will be evident.
I think I better get some more kitties to keep me warm.
One more note: the Media is targeting the Web as the source of the power shortage....what a convenient way to pave the way for taxing the industry...eh? How convenient that Bush has an adviser from ENE...and natural gas prices have doubled, without any shortages. Of course we need to allow greater natural resource development too, even though there is no shortage accountable for the rise in price...such a well orchestrated play by the Big Boys. They deserve recognition for their creativity...I doubt, however, the Media will recognize the areas I have brought up...except for taxing the Web industry, and the Emergency Need for new permits. Kind of like using Martial Law to enact legislation. Same Old, Same Old...coming to play in a theatre near you, if it has not already.
