It didn't feel constructive to me I recognize that. I picked that up soon after I visited LWP. I'm still trying to understand it. The reason I keep pressing although I know you don't want to pursue this line of discussion, is partly that I enjoy discussion but mostly because I think it's really important in this messy world we live in for people to be able to talk to each other openly and honestly lest we turn into Yugoslavia. All one has to do is look at the vicious posts that pass for dialogue between the left and the right on SI. It's all hyperbole, demonizing, and some of the worst logic in the world. Pretty hard to get to consensus from there. If people like you and I can't exchange posts on the subject of the characterization of liberalism, the world is doomed. All I said was that liberals assume that it's the government's job to solve all problems. That's like my saying that cats are carnivores. You know I love cats. I'm not dissing them. Cats are veritable killing machines. That may be a bit over-expressive, but I'm still not dissing them. I'm simply characterizing them. Overnight, X and Jorj were discussing another salient difference between liberals and libertarians--whether the people give power to the government or the government gives power to the people. Neither is a putdown. It's simply an analytical expression of what defines the two groups. A compare and contrast exercise. Please understand that I'm not trying to offend you or convince you, just facilitate discussion for our mutual understanding and growth. Karen
