I don't know if we actually disagree, I have no problems with your post...<g> of course, artists have patrons, publishers, studios and so on... when I said restrictions, I was referring to restrictions imposed upon the artist such as being told not to write about specific material, or not to paint specific subjects or topics, much like we would see in China or any Communist country... those artists are in prison or executed..... sorry for not making myself clear.....<g>

My goodness- think of the restrictions the CHURCH put on artists!

And who can forget the great muralist Diego Riviera and the destruction of his mural commissioned by Nelson Rockefeller for the RCA building? That mural was DESTROYED, because Diego would not remove the face of Lenin from "Man at the Crossroads". In doing this Rockefeller obliterated a master work by one of the modern geniuses of painting. It was, imo, equivalent to the destruction of a Rembrandt. Restrictions ABOUND- and always have done.
