The Foundation for Economic Education puts out a great monthly -- IDEAS ON LIBERTY -- for a nominal fee. Some of the articles are directed at students and have lesson plans available on the net. Well worth the dough and the time.

Both my boys have taken economics in high school (Ammo is taking it right now). It's not regarded as a "serious" subject by anyone, is only a semester course, and I have no idea what they learn, but it's there!

CB, both my kids took AP Economics - one semester on micro and one semester on macro. Granted, most colleges don't accept it as credit, even with a 5, but it sure helps the kids when they finally do go to college.
