Thursday by naming its first bevy of gold certified partners.

Of particular interest is Microsoft's newest class of partner,
the Application Service Provider. Microsoft today named
two U.K.-based ASPs as Gold Certified Partners: Equant
and NetStore. Several U.S-based ASPs are also in the
running, including USi and ManagedOps, sources said last
fall.

The Redmond-based company also named the first six ISV
partners to be certified under the new program, which
replaces the seven-year-old Microsoft Certified Solution
Provider (MCSP) program. The first Microsoft Gold Certified
Partners for Software Products are BindView, icomXpress
Software Solutions, IXOS Software, Lynx Commercial
Systems, Priberam Informatica, Navision Financials and
NetIQ.

Microsoft named 26 companies to be certified as Microsoft
Gold Certified Partner for E-Commerce Solutions, including
Navantis, Plural, xwave, G.A. Sullivan, Competitive
Computing, Sage

Information Consultants, Shavlik and Rare Medium.

In addition, the vendor established separate Microsoft Gold Certified Partner programs for
Support Services and Enterprise Systems. The first U.S.-based partners with this
designation include Comdisco, Compaq, Dell Computer, DecisionOne, EDS, EMC/Data
General Division, Getronics, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, NCR, Software Spectrum, Stratus,
Stream International and Unisys.

Microsoft Gold Certified Partners for Enterprise Systems, the final catgeory, includes
Compaq, Convergent Technologies, DataReturn, Goliath Networks, Sequoia Software and
Vertex Technology Consulting.
