Ehile I am undecided about whether the death penalty is fair or even effective, I'm especially uncomfortable with the government deciding who lives and dies. now that Lady Justice has been gang-raped and left for dead by the one institution and refuge that I thought was ultimately trustworthy, The United Stetes Supreme Court. If they can fix an election, they could, in theory, refuse appeals in a similar partisan way. Who ya gonna call?

>>It doesn't save money<< Sure, it saves lots of government revenue... think about it, you have to house, and feed, and clothe, and bathe, and look after the criminals' medical and health needs, dental needs, and so on... we also need prison correctional officers and support staff and personnel, administrators, and crews to maintain these prisons in addition to the professional help we hire to care for these inmates... this costs the State of Florida about $42,000.00 a year for each and every State Prison inmate... you work hard, that's your tax money that could otherwise feed, clothe, and house hungry children and the innocent homeless... do you have a better suggestion? Devil's Island may not be a bad idea....<g> I'll be there in a few months, I'll look around and maybe we can use it.....<g> >>and there is no demonstrable deterrent value.<< Inmate housing in a State or Federal penitentiary is not intended to be a deterrent, the notion of deterrence is a false and distracting argument... the word penitentiary contains the word, penitent, to repent, the prison system was originally designed for inmates to soul search and to begin to feel sorrow and misgivings for their acts against a civil society..... but more than 70% of those released return to prison because all those expensive rehabilitative programs and efforts had failed..... these criminals have no regrets, these criminals prey on society again and, as a result, we are responsible for creating move victims... we now have 7 very dangerous escapees from a Texas prison because the prison that housed them is understaffed and poorly trained... something is dreadfully wrong with this picture..... >>Revenge may be sweet, but I'm not sure it's a business government should be in.<< If the government does not manage the execution of the worst criminals, then it would be left up to the victims' families to settle those accounts... heck, I have no problem with that.....
