Mary, RE: In recent years, MSFT, CSCO, AOL, and in the old economy Coca Cola under Roberto Gozueta very consistently came in a penny or two better than expectations quarter after quarter.

I just think Intel refuses to play this game for some goofy reasons (if they have any reason for it).

MSFT, CSCO, and AOL have had highly predictable earnings streams over the past few years. Earnings have grown, steadily. Consequently, it wasn't that difficult to manage the earnings stream.

Even in good times, INTC earnings are much more volatile and unpredictable, both on the upside and the downside. There's nothing INTC can do about that, there's nothing goofy about it.
