John, with Coke I'll agree. But as far as MSFT and CSCO are concerned, my recall of the past few years is that an inter-quarter estimate revision was very rare. I've got no data to back that up, but MSFT would regularly post earnings that were well in excess of estimates, which would often absolutely shock the analysts. OTOH, CSCO would just massage their numbers quarter to quarter to ensure beating the analyst number by a penny or two.

That's just not true, All they have to do, is exactly what intel does, you can adjust guidance anytime and many times, you just have to announce it to everyone along with the analysts.
