Jon...was in Chicago in the late 70's during a an equally fierce winter.....
people were getting punched...shot......cars trashed...a few were turned into blocks of ice by irate...creative types....

3 days in a row the Chicago temperature has been above freezing (hmm - now there is an interesting 3 day coincidence) and the snow is melting, but the furniture remains in place - lawn chairs dot the side streets, reserving your parking place.

a complication of the "dibs's" system has been that the plows cannot collect the piled up snow and toss it in the lake because of the "environmental hazard" of all the "waste" (furniture) mixed in with the snow.
