Haven't gotten a illegal access error, so that is very positive. On the system resources available side of the equation it stacks up like this: On startup - 84% - AIM - Point32 - Zonealarm - Explorer Internet Connection - 78% Outlook - 71% Internet Exploder - 66% Excel - 60% Best Direct with Quick Window - 44% QCharts - 37% Lacerte (Tax Program) - 19% Word - 15% Second IE Window - 13% So I can run the resources down very quickly. Going to search the net and see what I can find about limiting the amount of resources some of these apps need. For example, FredE told me to empty my mail folders and such...did so. I think on QC, if you limit your workspace, that would cut down, so I cut some charts I wasn't using and need to pare it down a bit more. The Tax Program is a resource hog, not sure I can do anything about that. I suspect the MS apps are the only ones I might still be able to do something with and given that they are MS apps, it is likely that nothing can be done. Anyway...that is the update. I suspect a clean re-boot at least once a day is going to become a matter of course for me to restore the resources available. It appears there is a lot of stuff "left behind" when you close down a program because when you open it if you go from 40% to 30% and then you close it, you should be back at 40%, but that is not the case. It is generally less than 40%. Anyway, glad I got all the crap off this machine and at this time don't believe I lost anything. Last time I did this I lost my Quicken files (personal checkbook and check printing). That was terrible. Thought I lost my address book this time, but for some unexplicable reason, last night that loaded up. Don't know what I did differently. I tried to load it 100 times prior to that, and it would not, but last night it did. Perhaps it had something to do with a DLL that was loaded and bad. It was an NT DLL and a internet search showed me that it was a common problem. I fixed it and did not think about it, but the address book did load after that repair. Anyway...fun and games this was not, but now things are running smoothly. -Scott.
