I don't attend many prayer breakfasts - I am not an early riser - but it's like attending a banquet, there are speakers, and there are also non-denominational prayers.

Last prayer breakfast I went to, a couple of years ago, for the inauguration of Gov. Gilmore, the speaker was someone from the Religious Right, and lectured us about how the US is an experiment by God in forming a country founded on Christianity. It was actually three years ago, and I am hazy on the details. The crowd was very appreciative - Gilmore himself isn't Religious Right - and he didn't look pleased but was impassive. After the speech, a gospel choir from Gilmore's church sang - Gilmore attends a church in Richmond which has a mostly black congregation - and the choir was all black - they were great! But this time the people in the audience were mostly impassive. I believe that Gilmore's minister had some words to say, as well, and he was black.

So there really is a big culture gap here - which is unfortunate - but that's why I try to judge people as individuals - you never know where a person is coming from unless you do that.
