Maybe The Fed Shouldn't Fight The Market

Some very disturbing Comments From The vice chairman of the Federal Reserve, Roger W. Ferguson Jr.

nytimes.com

...Further rate cuts by the Fed, he said, would depend in part on the strength of the stock market...

A very explicit statement that the Fed is targeting the market.

What if the market is truly overvalued. The recent declines have been the free markets recognition and correction of this imbalance. The economy while perhaps experiencing a normal cyclical consolidation, remains very healthy. Intervention on the part of the Fed to prop up the market will have very significant adverse implications for the real economy.

It seems that any Fed focus on the market would constitute a most serious compromise of the very essence of capitalism and the ultimate downfall of the economy.
