Good Point El - Every wireless consumer utilize backbone lines. Even people placing calls cell to cell use the backbone on occasion.

WCOMs Greatest asset is UUNET, the platform for local and global internet connectivity.

I connect to the internet through my local phone company,Bellsouth. WCOM is Bellsouth's contracted access provider (via UUNET). Aside from hardware company's like CISCO, UUNET is the foundation of the internet.

The only thing that worries me is the rapid rate of technological advancements in this sector. GPS has been installed around the Globe via joint deployment operations by NASA and the Defense Department. I wonder what else those satellites can do. The United States Government already negotiated royalty contracts with over 60% of host countries.

We hear the word "WIRELESS" and we think of cell phones which use land based towers connected to each other with land lines (Lines operated in part by WCOM). What if technology advancements allows a watch sized computer to communicate via satellite to satellite? Will WCOM get a piece of that pie?
